HazMat transportation training refers to the specialized training that individuals involved in HazMat transportation, including drivers, handlers, loaders, and shippers, of hazardous materials (HazMat) must undergo to ensure the safe handling, storage, and transport of these materials. Hazardous materials include substances or materials that pose a risk to health, safety, property, or the environment.
The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) mandates the training requirements for HazMat transportation. These regulations aim to protect individuals, communities, and the environment from potential hazards associated with transporting hazardous materials.
HazMat transportation training must include:
Initial training must be completed within 90 days of employment for new HazMat employees or employees who change job functions. Recurrent training is required once every three years. Please note that the three-year period begins on the actual training date.
